Ask a Librarian is committed to keeping your personal information private. In order to provide effective assistance to you, we do ask for name and e-mail address, however you do not have to provide this information to receive services from Ask a Librarian. Additional information, such as: your status – middle school student, college student, etc. and library of access – may be gathered to more efficiently analyze your question, direct our responses and recommend appropriate reference or research resources. Personal information gathered before and during your session is considered confidential and will only be used to respond to your question and obtain statistical data.

We use LibAnswers as our reference communication platform. The library will use the information provided in the question submissions to respond to you as well as to gather aggregate usage statistics on the use of this platform. In submitting your question, you acknowledge that the information you provide will be transferred to LibAnswers for processing in accordance with their Privacy Policy and GDPR Compliance Terms.

To use this platform, the system writes one or more cookies in your browser. These cookies are not shared with any third parties. In addition, your IP address and browser information is stored in server logs and used to generate anonymized usage statistics. Your institution uses these statistics to gauge the use of library content, and the information is not shared with any third parties.

A sampling of transcripts, with all personal identifiable information removed, will be kept for research purposes. These transcripts provide statistical information and quality control that assists us in serving you more effectively.
