January Exemplary Reference Awards

The Quality Assurance Workgroup has been hard at work and has awarded the following transcripts for January 2010 Exemplary Reference Awards. Transcripts were awarded in three categories: Best Detailed Chat, Best Brief Chat, and Best Teaching Chat.

Susan Smith from Hodges University will receive a gift card to Amazon.com for her Exemplary Detailed Chat and all three winners will receive a certificate at a presentation at this next year’s annual Florida Library Association Conference.

Exemplary Brief Chat:

Sandra Lee Hawes, St. Leo University

Sandra helped a student find the Florida Electronic Library and get started on her search. Made sure the student felt confident enough to go on her own.

Exemplary Detailed Chat:

Susan Smith, Hodges University

Susan helped the user find what she needed and more! The user came in for books for autistic and down syndrome – and left excited about the programming available at her Library and with several books to look for. Wonderful job!

Exemplary Teaching Chat:

Pat Russell, Maitland Public Library

Great assistance to a college student seeking peer reviewed psychology journals. The student was confused with navigating the database so Pat set up a screen share session. Pat walked the student through search strategies and helped the student locate 105 articles on their subject.

Selecting the top transcript in each category can often be a hard process with so many terrific sessions to choose from. Each month, I feel the QA group has to make harder and harder choices as the transcripts seem to get better and better. Below are the other people who were nominated this month by themselves, co-workers or the quality assurance workgroup.
