The Quality Assurance Workgroup is happy to award the following transcripts for the September 2011 Exemplary Reference Awards. Transcripts were awarded in three categories: Best Brief Chat, Best Detailed Chat, and Best Teaching Chat.

The three winning transcripts are at: https://info.askalibrarian.org/toolbox/september-2011-exemplary-transcripts/

Show your statewide colleagues that you value the customer service they provide to your patrons and students with a nomination. You can nominate yourself or your co-workers sessions in the Ask a Librarian Toolbox at: https://info.askalibrarian.org/ or when closing a live chat session.

A huge thanks to everyone for all their hard work on Ask a Librarian – without each of you, Ask a Librarian would not be a success.

Brief Exemplary Chat:
James Larson, Palm Beach County
This was a great readers’ advisory session for James L.  He explored the patron’s interests in fiction and with his knowledge of fiction, James was able to find titles in a specific genre for the patron. James L. really connects with the patron over book suggestions.

Detailed Exemplary Chat:
Susan Smith, Hodges University
Susan S. helped a grade school student with ideas for a science project by finding books that the student could check out from a local library and also sending excellent websites that were age specific for the 5th grader.

Teaching Exemplary Chat:
Richard Reilly,  Martin County Public Library
Richard helped a student explore the concept of “cause to action” finding useful websites that helped explain the concept to the student who was writing a composition paper. Good guidance for a student who was trying to understand a difficult concept!

Congratulations to our winners!
