Each month, the Ask a Librarian team picks an outstanding member that has shown exceptional participation in the program. This month’s AAL SuperStar winner is Barbara Gundersen from the University of Florida, George A. Smathers Libraries.

Barbara is the AAL Site Coordinator for UF libraries. In addition to being an enthusiastic Ask a Librarian cheerleader for her UF colleagues, Barbara works hard with the UF team to amplify her library’s virtual reference presence and to see to it that UF students get reference help in their moments of need. In addition to UF’s local desk, she has shown extraordinary dedication to library patrons across Florida (and those libraries’ staff!) through generous assistance on the statewide Ask a Librarian Academic and Collaborative Desks.

Barbara has amazing dedication to the Ask a Librarian service. She is a great supporter of AAL and a true gem to the program. Her upbeat personality and temperament is contagious!”

January 2013 AAL SuperStar Winner

SuperstarEach month, the Ask a Librarian team picks an outstanding member that has shown exceptional participation in the program. This month’s AAL SuperStar winner is Mary Kuipers from LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library.

Mary is the Site Coordinator for LeRoy Collins Leon County Public library. She is a past Exemplary Reference winner of a teaching chat in May 2012. 

Mary has INFECTIOUS enthusiasm about the service and is always motivational to get her staff excited about AAL. She has shared messages from the librarians at LCLCPL that have used AAL for a question and their response has always been that the service is “always helpful”. When our new marketing campaign came out with the yellow badges, Chris an AAL staff member from LCLCPL, took some exciting photos promoting the service. Mary shared those photos with us and we promoted them on the AAL Facebook page. Just another way to get involved and promote the service!

Mary is a TERRIFIC supporter of Ask a Librarian and her dedication to the program is beyond wonderful! You are an inspiration Mary!

Each month, the Ask a Librarian team picks an outstanding member that has shown exceptional participation in the program. This month’s AAL SuperStar winner is Rhonda Kitchens from State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota!

Rhonda is a Librarian with the State College of Florida (SCF) – Venice Campus. She is also a March 2010 Exemplary Reference Winner for a detailed chat.

Rhonda is an amazing promoter of AAL. She helped roll out SCF’s Instant Invite which became the first automated Click to Chat technology available to students in the state of Florida. She was awarded with the 2011 Learning Resources Commission Exemplary Practice Award for Library Services with the roll out of Instant Invite. Rhonda helped us test and launch the new In-Page Widget, localized text messaging and innovations within the program. She created this image for her students using the text messaging feature at SCF Library. SCF Text Messaging

Rhonda is a such an ENTHUSIASTIC member of the Ask a Librarian team. She is a recent member of the Quality Assurance Workgroup, assisting with the Exemplary Reference Winners each month.

Each month, the Ask a Librarian team picks an outstanding member that has shown exceptional participation in the program. This month’s AAL SuperStar winner is Lora Glass from Niceville Public Library!

Lora has been with the Niceville Public Library since 1983. She started out as the Library Assistant and when the new library facility opened in 2000, became Head of Reference and Interlibrary Loan.  She is a numerous exemplary reference award winner, being awarded in August 2007 for a  teaching chat , July 2009 for a teaching, and January 2011 for a detailed chat. AskaLibrarian is one of her favorite duties because she is constantly challenged.  Her favorite question which she has been asked numerous times is “Are people from Niceville always nice?” Her reply is always, YES.

Lora is a wonderful asset to the Ask a Librarian team. She is a member of the Quality Assurance Workgroup, helping award our wonderful staff that makes Ask a Librarian the terrific service it is. Lora is always reaching out to help staff the desk, willing to help her statewide colleagues.

Each month, the Ask a Librarian team will pick an outstanding member that has shown exceptional participation in the program. This month’s AAL SuperStar winner is Susan Smith from Hodges University!

Susan is a Librarian and Site Coordinator for Hodges University. She was an Exemplary Reference Award winner for a brief chat in October 2008, a detailed chat in January 2010, and a detailed chat September 2011.She was also on Ask a Librarian’s SMS Committee, and served an integral role in choosing the best solution to meet the text messaging needs of residents across Florida.

Susan is a real go-getter, always ambitious and ready to help her colleagues on the Ask a Librarian desk. Whether it is to pick up an extra shift or fill in for someone who had a last minute obligation to fill, Susan is always right there to help!! She also helped her library roll out local desk customizations successfully to better serve their students.

Susan is an awesome supporter of Ask a Librarian and her commitment to the program is EXTRAORDINARY!

Each month, the Ask a Librarian team will pick an outstanding member that has shown exceptional participation in the program. This month’s AAL Super Star winner is Susan Weiss from Florida International University.

Susan is the Urban and Environmental Affairs Librarian for the Reference Department and the Site Coordinator for Florida International University libraries, Biscayne Bay Campus. Susan is also an Exemplary Reference Award winner for a brief chat in September 2010 and a teaching chat October 2007.

Susan is amazing, she frequently volunteers for shifts on both the Academic and Collaborative Desks. She regularly offers to help with shifts sent out by both AaL staff and those individuals emailing the listserv for last-minute help. It’s wonderful to have her support both colleagues on the Academic side as well as the collaborative desk. Susan is always encouraging new and existing staff at FIU to pick up weekly shifts.

Susan is a GREAT supporter of Ask a Librarian and her dedication to the program is MARVELOUS!

Each month, the Ask a Librarian team will pick an outstanding member that has shown exceptional participation in the program. This month’s AAL Super Star winner is Pat Barbier.

Pat is the site coordinator for St. Petersburg College as well as the Co-Chair of the Quality Assurance workgroup for Ask a Librarian. Pat has been active in AAL for over 7 years now, each year bringing a fresh new perspective to the group. This year Pat worked with Joyce Ward, co-chair of the QA worgroup, to come up with a new and exciting way to get our librarians motivated about Nominating chat transcripts.

Pat is an amazing supporter of Ask a Librarian and her dedication to the program is TREMENDOUS!

July AAL SuperStar Award

July SuperStar Recipient: Mike Shell, Jacksonville Public Library

Each month, the Ask a Librarian team will pick an outstanding member that has shown exceptional participation in the program.This month’s AAL Super Star winner is Mike Shell, Librarian Senior at Jacksonville Public Library.

Mike is the site coordinator for JPL (along with co-coordinator Christa Snow). Mike is one of our biggest promoters for Ask a Librarian, both internally within Jacksonville and statewide. Whether through promotion of chat, texting, or increasing patron statistics and staff participation & encouragement, Mike is constantly providing the AAL team with suggestions and ideas on promoting the service.

Mike works directly with the marketing folks at Jacksonville to organize and promote front line marketing for AAL. Recently, during a Battle of the Bands tournament, Mike was able to get their staff to add the AAL images to the plasma screen slide show during the contest promoting Ask a Librarian. When the statewide Spanish email platform launched Mike choose to integrate the option for his patrons into Jacksonville’s customized widget. He even added the AaL widget to his personal blog, The Surly Librarian http://surlylib.blogspot.com!

Mike is an amazing supporter and his enthusiasm for Ask a Librarian is infectious and we LOVE it!

AAL Superstar Award

Each month, the Ask a Librarian team will pick an outstanding member that has shown exceptional participation in the program.  We see how hard you are working to make this statewide program work, and we want to acknowledge your commitment to the program. Many of you continuously step up in tough times, whether it is picking up an extra shift or helping a colleague on the statewide desk when others are busy. We see how you market AAL to your patrons and students to promote the program. This shows a commendable effort on your part to help AAL provide exemplary service month after month.

We will announce an AAL Superstar at the beginning of each month. We will also highlight the winner’s accomplishments and dedication on the Ask a Librarian Blog and Facebook page.

Once we announce the winner, we will send them the awesome AAL Superstar Plaque to display in their library. When the next winner is announced, the previous winner will help us celebrate the new winner by either passing the plaque onto them via the statewide delivery program, or sending it back to us at TBLC.

June AAL Superstar Award

Our first winner is Lena Phelps, Chair of Library Services at South Florida Community College. Lena always goes above and beyond her duties on the statewide desk, jumping on to help her colleagues or picking up extra shifts. Her enthusiasm for the statewide program is very energetic. Her hard work never goes unnoticed on  Ask a Librarian! Please help me welcome this month’s winner, Lena Phelps!
