January 2014 SuperStar

Each month, the Ask a Librarian team picks an outstanding member that has shown exceptional participation in the program. January’s AAL SuperStar recipient is Elena Soltau from NOVA Southeastern University.
Elena is the assistant director of reference at the Alvin Sherman Library at NOVA Southeastern. Elena has won a Detailed Exemplary Reference Award in July 2012. She is also a member of the Quality Assurance workgroup for AAL, volunteering her time to help highlight exemplary chats. Elena has been a strong supporter of the collaborative desk, jumping on to pick up extra shifts when we have open slots.
Her efforts to help Ask a Librarian benefits the staff, patrons and students! Thank you Elena! Your dedication to the collaborative service is outstanding!

101_1731Each month, the Ask a Librarian team picks an outstanding member that has shown exceptional participation in the program. December’s AAL SuperStar recipient is Jill Simser from Eastern Florida State College (EFSC).
 
Jill Simser is a librarian and site coordinator for Ask A Librarian at Eastern Florida State College – Cocoa Campus. Jill has won a Brief Exemplary Reference Award in 2007 and 2013. She is one of our biggest promoters for Ask a Librarian, both internally within EFSC and statewide. She promotes chat and texting which increases student statistics, staff participation and encouragement. Jill continually helps the AAL team with promotion of the service to their students through widgets on their site and instant invite. 
 
Her fantastic efforts to promote Ask a Librarian benefits the staff, patrons and students! Thank you Jill! Your dedication and readiness is always energetic!

August 2013 Exemplary Reference Awards

The Quality Assurance Workgroup is happy to award the following transcripts for the August 2013 Exemplary Reference Awards. Transcripts were awarded in three categories: Best Brief Chat, Best Detailed Chat, and Best Teaching Chat.

angela falseyBrief Exemplary Reference Award: Angela Falsey, St. Petersburg Public Library

Angela was able to walk a customer through an issue with MLA formatting. The customer responded with “You are the best”. Angela did a great job quickly and effectively answering the question!

 

carolynDetailed Exemplary Reference Award: Carolyn Wallace, Alachua County Library System

Carolyn walked a customer through running a custom search for business type in Ref USA to look for a business. The customer was appreciative of the help Carolyn extended. Way to go Carolyn!

Each month, the Ask a Librarian team picks an outstanding member that has shown exceptional participation in the program. November’s AAL SuperStar recipient is Juli Davis from St Johns County.

Juli Davis is the Digital Librarian  at the St. Johns County Public Library System in St. Augustine.  After starting out several years ago as a volunteer for the library system, she eventually joined the reference team and is now the Site Coordinator for St. Johns. Julie takes real ownership of helping on the Collaborative Desk and is a terrific team player with AAL. From picking up multiple one-time statewide shifts to responding to individuals seeking a last-minute replacement on AskRef,  she is always jumping on to help her statewide colleagues in a time of need.

Her outstanding efforts to help Ask a Librarian benefits the staff, patrons and students! Thank you Juli, your dedication and effort to the program is commendable!
