October 2013 SuperStar

PascoThis month, we recognize a library system that has played an outstanding part in implementing Ask a Librarian.  October’s AaL SuperStar recipient is Pasco County Library System.

Pasco County Library System is dedicated to the collaborative Ask a Librarian desk and is committed to staffing it. Every time a new librarian is added to the library staff, that person is trained in Ask a Librarian and the library adds an additional hour of collaborative desk coverage – covered by that person.  Over time, using this model, Pasco’s collaborative desk coverage has grown from 5 shifts to 12 shifts a week.

A Big Thank you to Pasco County Library System, for everything they do to make AAL a collaborative success. Please help us congratulate our October SuperStar recipients, Pasco County Library System.

September 2013 SuperStar

Each month, the Ask a Librarian team picks an outstanding member that has shown exceptional participation in the program. September’s AAL SuperStar recipient is Leila Gibradze, Associate Director of Goldstein Library at Florida State University.

Leila’s support of the Academic and Collaborative Desks in Ask a Librarian has been phenomenal. She picks up many last-minute statewide shifts on the Academic and Collaborative Desks to ensure our Florida patrons have help, and she encourages her staff to do the same. Her team covers several regular statewide hours each week – including several hours on Sundays, when Ask a Librarian has fewest academic libraries staffing the statewide desk.

In addition, Leila coordinates a substantial local desk for Goldstein FSU patrons during all the hours the library is open: Monday – Thursday: 8 am to 9 pm; Fridays: 8 am to 4:30 pm; Saturdays: 10:30 am to 5:30 pm; Sundays: 1:30 pm to 9:30 pm. She also coordinates the AAL scheduling for Goldstein and ensures that all staff receive adequate training. They also encourage local faculty to incorporate Ask a Librarian into their lesson plans.

The Goldstein Library was one of the first AAL participating libraries when we began beta testing of the first software. Their commitment to AAL has been outstanding over the last 10 years. Without their dedication, AAL would not be the strong program it is today.

Thank you, Leila, for everything you do to make AAL a collaborative success. Please help me congratulate our September SuperStar, Leila Gibradze.

August 2013 SuperStar, Caroline Reed, New College of Florida

August 2013 SuperStar, Caroline Reed, New College of Florida

Each month, the Ask a Librarian team picks an outstanding member that has shown exceptional participation in the program. August’s AAL SuperStar recipient is Caroline Reed from New College of Florida (NCF).

Caroline Reed is the Director of Research, Instruction and Outreach services at the Jane Bancroft Cook Library in Sarasota. Caroline has been with NCF since 1997. She is a strong team member of the Ask A Librarian Service who helps on the statewide desk; has a positive outlook; and promotes local and statewide desk participation to NCF staff.

Jane Bancroft Cook librarians are dependable, enthusiastic, and always eager to assist local and statewide patrons in their moments of need. Along with Site Coordinator Natalie Reske, Caroline broadly champions NCF staff to take full advantage of the wonderful resources available through Ask a Librarian… an amazing cheerleader makes for an amazing team!

She always jumps on board and volunteers for beta testing to support new enhancements and features in Ask A Librarian. She was an enthusiastic participant in the launch of the new dedicated texting enhancement. Caroline has always incorporated every aspect of AAL into the learning community in their library and her hard work never goes unnoticed.

Please help me congratulate this month’s SuperStar winner Caroline Reed!
