March 2013 SuperStar Award

Susan Livingston from South Florida State College, March 2013 SuperStar

Susan Livingston from South Florida State College, March 2013 SuperStar

Each month, the Ask a Librarian team picks an outstanding member that has shown exceptional participation in the program. This month’s AAL SuperStar winner is Susan Livingston from South Florida State College.

Susan is a librarian at the main campus in Avon Park. She is a past Exemplary Reference winner for a detailed chat in April 2007, teaching chat in June 2007 and April and October of 2008. Susan is also a mentor for the AAL program, asking pretend-chat questions to new trainees. She has also presented the workshop “Customer Service, or How to Win an Exemplary Reference Award” with co-presenter Pat Barbier several times for Ask a Librarian members.

Susan has been a backbone to the Ask a Librarian program since they joined. If there is a call for help on the lists, Susan is there to help out her fellow colleagues. She chooses to staff regular evening hours, with the express intention of assisting her statewide colleagues most in need of help.

Susan is an AMAZING supporter of Ask a Librarian and her dedication to the program will certainly be missed! This is a special time for Susan as she will be retiring in May of this year. Her hard work NEVER goes unnoticed.

Please help me congratulate this month’s Honorary SuperStar winner, Susan Livingston.

February 2013 AAL SuperStar winner is Barbara Gundersen from the University of Florida, George A. Smathers Libraries.

February 2013 AAL SuperStar winner is Barbara Gundersen from the University of Florida, George A. Smathers Libraries.

Each month, the Ask a Librarian team picks an outstanding member that has shown exceptional participation in the program. This month’s AAL SuperStar winner is Barbara Gundersen from the University of Florida, George A. Smathers Libraries.

Barbara is the AAL Site Coordinator for UF libraries. In addition to being an enthusiastic Ask a Librarian cheerleader for her UF colleagues, Barbara works hard with the UF team to amplify her library’s virtual reference presence and to see to it that UF students get reference help in their moments of need. In addition to UF’s local desk, she has shown extraordinary dedication to library patrons across Florida (and those libraries’ staff!) through generous assistance on the statewide Ask a Librarian Academic and Collaborative Desks.

Barbara has amazing dedication to the Ask a Librarian service. She is a great supporter of AAL and a true gem to the program. Her upbeat personality and temperament is contagious!”

Please help me congratulate this month’s SuperStar winner, Barbara Gundersen!

New Technical Support Platform

Matt Smith has installed a new platform for users to submit technical support questions for Ask a Librarian. The new Help Desk lets you submit a request ticket and walks you through a series of questions to pin point what technical support you need. Once you submit a ticket, you will receive an email confirming your request with a ticket number. You can check on the status of that ticket at any time.

You even have access to a searchable database to look for frequently asked questions. This knowledge-base may be able to help you with your technical issue first.

Please submit all technical support requests through the form on the help desk website. This will ensure your question is going to the correct person and resolved in a timely fashion.

Thanks for your support of Ask a Librarian.

Widgets

Ask a Librarian widgets embedded on a web page allow your patrons to chat, text, or email without leaving your website. The Ask a Librarian SmartButton indicates whether chat is being staffed. Choose from the pool of existing designs, or tell us your preferred characteristics and color scheme for a truly customizable user feature. An iframe tag places the AaL hosted widget anywhere on your page, although it’s also possible to use our documentation to place the code on your own hosted page without using an iframe.

This widget was created for SCFMS and is on their Primo page.

Instant Invite

Instant Invite is a proactive chat that can be set it up so when a patron arrives on a library page the chat will pop onto the screen. Or if they run a search in the catalog and receive no results, a pop up will ask them if they want to chat with a librarian. Everything about this can be customized. Find out more about Instant Invite. Contact us if you would like to set one up for your library.

January 2013 AAL SuperStar Winner

SuperstarEach month, the Ask a Librarian team picks an outstanding member that has shown exceptional participation in the program. This month’s AAL SuperStar winner is Mary Kuipers from LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library.

Mary is the Site Coordinator for LeRoy Collins Leon County Public library. She is a past Exemplary Reference winner of a teaching chat in May 2012.

Mary has INFECTIOUS enthusiasm about the service and is always motivational to get her staff excited about AAL. She has shared messages from the librarians at LCLCPL that have used AAL for a question and their response has always been that the service is “always helpful”. When our new marketing campaign came out with the yellow badges, Chris an AAL staff member from LCLCPL, took some exciting photos promoting the service. Mary shared those photos with us and we promoted them on the AAL Facebook page. Just another way to get involved and promote the service!

Mary is a TERRIFIC supporter of Ask a Librarian and her dedication to the program is beyond wonderful! You are an inspiration Mary!

Please help me congratulate this month’s SuperStar winner, Mary Kuipers!
